There is no shortage of Slam’d vehicles along the coasts, whether we’re talking about the coasts right here in the states, or the coasts of further away locations, like Australia and Japan. But while the lowered custom car scene seems to be more prevalent in these ocean-adjacent locales, more and more land-locked pockets of slammed, airbagged and custom vehicles have made their way into the limelight and are gaining notoriety. One of those areas is along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountain Region, tucked up against the foothills of the Rockies in Colorado. There, we attended the annual Hot Rods & Hawgs show last weekend hosted by our friends at Newstalgia and Thunder Mountain Harley, and we came across even more lowered customs and spectacular builds than we originally anticipated. If there’s one thing about the truck community that keeps people coming back for more, we’d have to sum it up in a single word – family. With shows all around the country, truck clubs nationwide, friendship and camaraderie definitely abound in the custom truck world. Naysayers always say that the custom truck scene is dying off, but they’ve been saying that for 20 plus years, and yet – it’s still alive and kicking! Proof positive is the huge support for this very mag and all of the gorgeous custom trucks scattered throughout these digital pages, and also the huge amount of support that truck clubs and events receive as they continue to grow. This year we took a trip over to a small town in the Lonestar state called Wortham, Texas to check out the No Regrets Small Town Take Over show presented by Tuckn’ Clothing.  Photos: Justin “Tuckn’ Clothing” Parker…Continue Reading

Every full throttle car guy with any significant time under their customizing belt has a list of rides that have occupied their wrench room, put their wallet on a diet, and made them want to throw tools across the garage. But all of the hard work, late nights, bounced checks, and busted knuckle moments seem to melt away the second the key hits the ignition and that finely chiseled piece of automotive art cuts through the air. As car guys our customized vehicles are an extension of who we are and there is nothing better than mobbing down the road in something you and a group of your best buds built together while flexing your personal style from chrome bumper to chrome bumper.  Photos: Sean “SoLo” French | Words: Travis Noack Tony Moore from Choctaw, Oklahoma has an addiction to Cadillacs and in 2012 he picked up the stunning 1960…Continue Reading
When you hear someone speak of the car culture in Japan, most people instantly conjure images of Tokyo Drift, and think drift-cars, imports, and even the extremely cambered out big-bodied VIP scene that has worked its way here to the States as well. However, there is a huge counter-culture that continues to expand and grow in popularity overseas that many in Japan refer to as the “Ganstar Car Culture,” or as we know it here, Lowriders. They have quite a few of their own “Lowrider” style magazines, custom shops, car clubs, and car shows with thousands in attendance. From sushi to Locs and flannels, these guys are not playing around and the moment you step into the Fit Kustomz shop you instantly forget what country you’re standing in and you’re instantly transported back to the streets of LA once more.  Photos: Mike Alexander | Words: Jon Hansen At Slam’d Mag we don’t feature very…Continue Reading
Every trend, genre, sport, hobby, music, art, etc. all have their “golden era” where things are in their prime and the ideas are original and refreshing. You may recall the golden era of hip hop, which took place in the ’80s and ’90s and stemmed from a West Coast vs. East Coast battle of style, taste, and preference. The term “six-fo” is mentioned throughout these two decades of music and appears in some of the most iconic hip-hop tracks and music videos of all time. One of these songs, still widely played today, was Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day” which plays well with lowriders and classics, and is especially fitting for this beautiful 1964 Impala featured here. Read along as we provide the details on Kamal Fernando’s 1964 Chevy Impala – the Horizon ’64 straight from the streets of Japan.  Photos: Mike Alexander | Words: Jason Ballard | Model: Mai…Continue Reading
Boyd Coddington is forever an iconic name in the hot rod world. Responsible for many trends and innovations, Coddington built and designed some of the most iconic hot rods and street rods of his time and pushed the industry forward time and time again. Unfortunately, Coddington passed back in 2008, but his legacy has lived on thanks to his son and owner of Hot Rods by Boyd, Chris Coddington. In addition to keeping his dad’s legacy alive through the creation of genuine Boyd Coddington HRBB wheels, Chris and his staff memorialize Boyd every year by awarding a deserving street rod the coveted Boyd Coddington Memorial Award at the first Goodguys show of the season in Del Mar. This year, the honor went to John Cowell’s ’35 Ford 5-window coupe. Cowell’s coupe was built by Image Street Rods in Santa Maria, California and took about a year and a half to complete,…Continue Reading
