Almost every project vehicle comes with the understanding of long nights, hard work, and constant battles and for Monty Rubart the moment he opened the door of his soon-to-be project 1938 Chevy Truck, it fell off and with a big smile on his face he instantly knew it was the right truck for him. A deal was struck and the hunt for parts was on. You see, the 1938 Chevy truck is a one year grille, hood, and hood ornament, which in turn makes these parts quite hard to track down in any sort of condition. So tackling a custom build of one of these trucks, while still keeping to the factory appearances is definitely a challenge all in itself.  Photos: Nico Jarrett | Words: Nico Jarrett and Mike Alexander The hunt for parts began about four years ago right after he dragged the shell home to his garage. Going from…Continue Reading
Wanting to keep his mind busy and stay out of trouble for once, Mike “Vito” Sutton of Desert Hot Springs, California decided to delve into a new project after taking a bit of a hiatus from custom builds. Having built several magazine quality customs in the past, including a 1964 Chevy Impala right before this build, Mike is no stranger to the work it takes and the dedication to see a project through to completion. He also knew exactly what he was aiming his sights for in his next project. Wanting the end result to be a killer cruiser that could be driven and enjoyed with the family (seems to be a common theme as we get older). So sit back and relax as we introduce you to Sutton’s latest creation, the Vito “Corleone” Coupe. As with most projects the build-up on this Cadillac began with a few emblems being shaved and of course,…Continue Reading
We wanted to kickoff our “Behind The Build” section with the perfect project scoop, so of course we had to wait for the right under-construction build to come along that would fit the bill. We will be featuring project builds that are in the build process but still meet our quality standards to bring you the best of the best of builds from around the globe! We found this 1972 VW Type 2 Panel Van in Japan at a shop called Silver Rest, owned by Tomoyuki Nonoshita and we were instantly in love with the build and knew we had to see more.  Photos: Mike Alexander | Words: Steve “Chance Photos” Berndsen While on our last trip to Japan to check out the 23rd Annual Mooneyes Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show we came across this build and were struck by the difference in style and taste compared to what we were used to…Continue Reading
Richard “Big Dick” Hallovic from Shellharbour New South Wales, Australia sure knows how to mix things up. Having grown up with three brothers who are all mechanics, he has been around his fair share of automotive customization his whole life. Richard isn’t a fan of stock builds and he tends to get bored fairly easy, which is one of the several reasons he decided to build something completely unique to stand out from the rest. This 1974 Dodge D5N 600 is not the norm in the custom scene, no matter which continent you hale from. Follow along as we take you on another voyage to showcase our friends from the Southern Hemisphere. Looking for his next project, Richard stumbled upon this 1974 Dodge. The cab itself was rescued from a “junkyard” of sorts in Australia and it started life as a full-size semi truck and was turned into an an old…Continue Reading
Often when we venture out and decide to begin a new project we scourer the interwebs looking for the perfect canvas to begin the journey. Other times that project might land in your lap like it was meant to be. For Jason Haase of Pasco, Washington he hit a home run when he came across this 1965 Chevy Impala, for a mere fifty dollars, which at the time was just a bare shell. Even though this might have deterred some potential owners, with Jason’s long resume of cutting up trucks and cars, this massive project wasn’t too much for him to tackle. Wanting something a bit larger now that the Haase Family was growing, Jason moved from the ground huggin’ trucks that he was use to cruising with his club Visions, and was ready to build the perfect yet unique family cruiser. Starting with just a 4dr 1965 Impala shell,…Continue Reading
The Cadillac has long been a symbol of luxury and refinement that still lives on through today’s models, but some would arguably say they were at the height of refinement from the ‘40s through the ‘60s. During this time, they were known for their sexy lines, regal chrome trim, and a luxury that proved to lead the way for American car builders. The time tested quality and elegance has given birth to a passionate following of “Magnificant Beyond All Expectations,” which happened to be Cadillac’s slogan for the early Coupe Deville model line-up. This passion has also lead to a number of high quality builds with a touch of “kustom” with examples like Scott Hultquist’s ’57 Cadillac Coupe Deville.  Photos: Courtney Cutchen | Words: Josh Wilson Scott’s hands have helped shape a variety of builds, from forgotten relics turned daily cruisers to some serious show-stoppers, but Cadillacs have always held…Continue Reading
Back in 2003 a small group of high-end auto enthusiasts broke away from the massive Donut Derelicts meet in Huntington Beach, California to start their own weekly gathering. This led them to Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach and once the word spread it started attracting more and more spectators and other car owners. It quickly out grew its location and was moved to Ford’s headquarters in Irvine, thanks to some help from John Clinard an avid car collector and West Coast Ford “big wig” back in 2006. Over the years what’s become well known as “Cars and Coffee” has grown larger by the week and hasn’t slowed down, rain or shine. It’s the perfect event for petrol heads and features cars from many manufacturers. If Nissan is one of your favorites, check out these Wichita Nissan Dealers. If you have been into the custom automotive scene for any length of time you probably know good and well what a bitchin’ ride looks like. The 1957 Chevy Bel Air you see before you is owned by Sam “Holmes” Harper III who has been representing the custom car scene for almost two decades now. Having previously built several vehicles, including an S-10 that he took from mild to wild, Holmes knew exactly what he wanted his next project to be. His goal was to build something for himself to check off the “dream ride” list, while allowing others to enjoy the build that he would be showcasing. He also wanted to partner up with his Dad, who just happens to be his best friend, to build a Father/Son ride that the whole family could enjoy. A long time ago, in a field far far away this Chevy was pulled…Continue Reading
